Heavy Rain Prequel/Sequel- Potential DLC?

Although the game hasn't been released yet, Heavy Rain (set to come out early 2010... Hopefully VERY early) is already undergoing talks about additional downloadable content.

In a recent interview with David Cage, founder of Quantic Dream, Cage revealed they are in talks with Sony to continue the storyline of the four main characters in Heavy Rain. He believes that players will get attached to the four main characters in the story, therefore sequels, prequels, or even both may be feasible as downloadable content.

Although I haven't even played the game yet, this news excites me..... In interesting ways.

...I must go now

Batman: Arkham Asylum- Head2Head with 360

I don't normally link to simply link to another website and call it news, but I thought that this particular article was worth a look. The Lens of Truth directly compares new games on each console, to see which one is worth getting.

I won't ruin the conclusion for you, but I will say that personally I think the PS3 is the console to get Batman: Arkham Asylum, simply for the exclusive Joker content. It adds a whole new level of gameplay to enjoy. Multiplayer will be a blast!

So check out the article, see which console wins.

Trash Panic (Review)

TRASH PANIC

Readers of my Top Demo lists may already know that after playing the Trash Panic demo over and over, I eventually decided to bite the bullet and splash out a whole £3.99 for the full game. The Student Loans company would be so proud of me.

You may also be aware that I've embarked on an extremely frustrating and time consuming endeavour of playing every demo I could find on the PlayStation Store. Although some demos are true gems, sometimes even inspiring me to buy the full game, the process as a whole has basically felt like excavating lumps of crap out of the PS Store... But it's ultimately worth it for the games that really stand out.

But we're here to talk about Trash Panic, aren't we?
First thing I have to say about Trash Panic is- download the demo. I'll wait.

Done? What did you think?

After recommending it in an article, a few people got back to me with their opinions- pretty much mixed reviews all around. Some people felt the same way as me, a fairly good game and quite addictive. On the other hand, some people thought it was a pointless waste of time, so this game really does depend on your taste of games. The way I saw it though was if the full game could give me even a little bit more fun then it would be worth the mere £3.99 I would pay for it. It's safe to say it didn't disappoint.

The full game has a variety of modes. Well, 3 modes really. There is "Main Mode", "Challenge Mode" and "Versus Mode".

MAIN MODE
In the Main Mode you play 5 levels of varying difficulty. Each level increases in size but pretty much stays the same, by which I mean the objects, as well as the bin, get larger, making it a more cosmetic change than anything.

The first level is a waste bin in a bedroom, therefore the objects are smaller, such as cups, dumbbells, lighters, pencils etc. The second level is set in an office, with filing cabinets, office chairs and such. The third level (the level from the demo) is set in a waste disposal site. The levels get increasingly larger scale until the final level has you throwing entire countries and islands into, well, a giant bin.

The levels are great fun as different objects have different properties, things can be set on fire, broken up, decomposed etc, so there is a fair bit of skill needed to complete each level. Changing the difficulty makes each level longer and adds a special "Boss" item at the end of each level- an object that is much larger and tougher than the others which you have to destroy in 10 seconds.

The main problem I had with the game was how frustratingly hard it is. I didn't want to write this review until I had completed the main mode, which has taken me a fair while now... On easy. There is no save option, which means that if you want to complete it you have to do all 5 levels in 1 sitting which, believe me, is much harder than it sounds.

If you just want a quick game you can simply select a level to play and have a bash. However, annoyingly all the levels aren't unlocked from the start. To unlock a level you have to complete it in the main mode. Which means to play the last level you have to play through the entire game, start to finish- which as I stated earlier can be EXTREMELY frustrating.

CHALLENGE MODE
Another mode that seems necessary in all puzzle-type games is the "Challenge Mode". This features an array of different challenges to complete, including "Small Bin" in which you play a level with a bin half the size, "Ring the Bell 108 times" in which you battle the raging, non-existent elements to strike said bell with all your might (108 times) and... I don't know the others. That's right, this mode suffers from the same Achilles Heel as the main mode in which you have to do the previous challenges to unlock the rest. At least I assume so, I've yet been able to ring that damn bell more than 90 times.

I really can't understand the reasoning behind this system of unlocking the games I want to play. I paid for this game with the tax payers hard eared cash, the least the game should do is let me play it. It feels like a strange and redundant method of prolonging game-play, adding longevity. But puzzle games shouldn't need that. They're specifically designed to pick up when bored and put down after a few games- hence the simplistic gameplay and low price tag. To force people to play sections of the game they find frustrating or even simply not fun is quite frankly absurd. I enjoy a good challenge and working towards unlocking extra levels and features in games- but not to have to play every challenge just to unlock the next. Perhaps if there were 10 challenges and you had to play all 10, or at least 8 or 9 of them to unlock the next 10. That would make more sense, giving the gamer more choices, getting the most out of THEIR GAME.

VERSUS MODE
I'll be honest, this is one of the main reasons I bought this game. The versus mode sounded like it could be heaps of fun and although it is fun for a short while, doesn't have the longevity to make it the tipping point for buying the game. It's quite simple, you and a friend each have a bin half the size of of the regular bins, and battle it out not to lose. The only real competitive element is trying to fill up your bin faster than the other player, as when it reaches the top, your bin is poured into your competitors.

Matches don't tend to last too long and normally just end up being decided by whoever can mash triangle (throwing the rubbish into the bin faster) the quickest. Say that, it is fun for a while and it is something I will continue to play people on it- without fully explaining the rules, just to give myself that small edge...

All these criticisms aside, I'd still fully recommend this game. It's a new twist on the traditional Tetris style puzzle game which I still enjoy playing, even after all those frustrating moments. The fire and decomposition aspect of the game works really well and can make or break a level.

It's a game designed to sit patiently on your virtual gaming shelf for that moment in time when you've just finished a challenging title, or simply want to wind down and not have to worry about keeping up with some sort of ridiculous story line (I'm looking at you- EVERY GAME from Japan!).

And for £3.99 you will most certainly get a fair few hours out of it, considering it costs about £6 to see a 90 minute film at the cinema- this game is a bargain.

PlayStation 3 Firmware (v3.00) Update

IN OTHER NEWS! (more interesting news in my opinion)

PlayStation 3 Firmware (v3.00) update has also been confirmed.
This new update has a fair few little updates and tweaks to the system, hopefully resulting in an all-round better experience.

The update will include:

  • “What’s New” – The “Information Board” will be replaced with a “What’s New” section, which allows you to enjoy interactive PlayStation news every time you start the PS3 system. Located under the PlayStation Network icon, “What’s New” displays the latest and greatest game, video, PlayStation Network and PlayStation news and releases, as well as your recently played games, in a sleek, new animated format.
  • Status Indicator – In the top right corner we’ve added an indicator bar, which displays your user icon, friend icon, the number of friends you have online and a small message icon to let you know if you have any new messages. The indicator also includes a scrolling ticker that features the latest news from PlayStation Network. In addition, when you press the PS button, the battery life indicator will no longer cover up the clock.
  • Friends List – Now your PlayStation Network friends will appear in a slightly redesigned format on your Friends List. Also, messages will now be viewable from each of your friends’ respective profiles.
  • PlayStation Store Shortcuts – We’ve added a handy shortcut icon to the PlayStation Store under both the Game and Video categories so you can access the latest content quickly and easily.
  • Personalization – Personalize your PS3 with new dynamic custom themes and avatars. Dynamic themes as well as free and premium avatars will be available through PlayStation Store. A dynamic theme takes your screen to a whole new level as it incorporates animated objects into the background.
  • Trophies – Showcasing your hard earned trophies just got better. Update 3.00 gives game developers the ability to modify how they display trophies for add-on content. Base and add-on game trophies will continue to be combined into a single list so you can see where you stand in a game as a whole. Within that list, trophies will be broken out into subcategories—base trophies and add-on trophies—that way, you can easily view the percentage of your base game trophy collection, and separately track your trophy progress in add-on packs. Look for this enhancement to be included in upcoming games.
What? Don't believe me? Well why not check this video out:

There will also be other minor tweaks to the system. I'm hoping that one of the tweaks will be for the internet browser, as currently it feels more like a cheap, last minute add-on.

PS3 Slim FINALLY REVEALED!

Well, the news is finally out- PS3 Slim hits the stores come 1st September (2009).
And with it, all those wonderful photoshoped images been before can be erased from your minds and replaced by these beauts:

Personally, I prefer the look of the original, but then again I always do. I prefer the bigger iPods, the original DS, PS2 etc.

And if that isn't enough for you, here's some hard facts for you, in video form.

So if you want one it will either cost you 299 euros, 299 dollars or 29,980 yen. Although they failed to mention how much it'll be in pound sterling, so I presume we in the UK will get it for free.

Sack Boy had an Accident ....

I've been feeling a bit guilty lately. When I first brought my PS3 home the first thing I done was play LittleBig Planet. I spent HOURS on that game. Then after completing it there was a vast array of custom made levels. THEN went on the PSN to download new costumes for the little fella.
Life was simple back then....

But now my games collection is increasing, the demos are coming thick and fast and the PS Store is releasing more and more classic games that can't be ignored, my Sack Boy sits alone in the corner...

New costumes are fun and all, but nothing more than aesthetics. What we need to rejuvenate this brilliant game is something new... Some new element to enhance the gameplay... Something... Wet?

That's right- LBP was gone all Kevin Costner. We're still awaiting more news, but this is enough to tickle my interest.
This will definately make me pick the game back up and give Sack Boy a great, big, plutonic cuddle!

Next week- some MANLY news.

Earthworm Jim- soon to be on the PSN!!

As you are all aware, I've been totally immersed in the PSN these past few weeks- trying out demos, buying small games and generally giggling over the back catalogue of retro games. The release of FF VII alone made me giggle with glee for weeks on end. And now I feel the Cheshire Cat-esque grin on my face has no chance of subsiding with the promise of another great classic game, one which sits close to the top of my all time favourite games list-

EARTHWORM JIM

I found this nugget of info on another gaming site-
Gameloft has announced it will be delivering the classic platformer Earthworm Jim to digital distribution platforms and mobile phones. Originally released on 16-bit systems back in 1994, Earthworm Jim stars the titular invertebrate who wears a super suit which grants him the power to fight the evil forces of Queen Slug-for-a-Butt. It's not clear, yet, whether this is an all-new game or a straight port of the original. As of this writing, Gameloft could not be reached for clarification.

"The game, with its humorous and edgy style, is a great fit for today's gamer who craves a fully immersive experience that is fun and easily accessible," said Gonzague de Vallois, senior vice president, Gameloft.

"Earthworm Jim resonates with millions of people worldwide and we are excited to have one of the best developers in the industry create this game for a new audience," said Herve Caen, CEO, Interplay.

Interestingly, SEGA announced last week that the original Earthworm Jim is a candidate for the next SEGA Classics release on Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) and PlayStation Network.

Can you say "GROOVY!"

New PS3 concept art?

When it comes to the PS3 Slim, everyone kind of feels like a mushroom. We're all just kept in the dark and fed shit.
Everyone out there is well aware of he rumours surrounding the release, or even the production of, the PS3 slim. I'd put my money on Sony developing the PS3, even if it is quite soon for their track record- Although I would say that the PS3 slim that appeared in a German auction site is most definitely fake.

And with rumours comes cleverly photoshoped concept art.

There has been everything from quite simplistic, "thin, black" designs.

Fancy lo
oking silver models (Basically the same, but in silver...)

And even a fe
w "real pics" floating around.

All pretty bland and boring really. Just the basic PS3 model (which if I'm honest, I think looks lush!) and made a bit smaller. But now it seems people are taking things a bit further- making the PS3 Slim even sexier!

This newly surfaced concept art, whether they're fake or not, gives me hope for an even better looking PS3 Slim then we've previously been lead to believe. Although we're still unsure of Sony's exact take on the Slims release, or even production.

But lets face it- we all know it's coming.

God of War 3- Gamescom Trailer

Digging up dirt on God of War 3, I found a link to videogameszone.de, as they have published the official gamescom '09 trailer of God of War 3.

Roughly translated, the article reads:
"Like, OMG! ZOM-FUCKING-G!! U SEEN DIS SHITZ?!"

Enjoy.

Biznitch's top Demo picks! (Part 2)

As regular readers may know, I have currently been neglecting all my real games on the PS3 (and for that matter, every other console) to focus on the cheaper things in life- Free demos from the PlayStation Store.

This is why I haven't been updating as much, as it turns out I may have taken on more than I could comfortably chew over a few days. As I type, I currently have 50 demos calling my console home, (with several more still to be installed) taking up almost 70gig on my hard drive!

But don't worry, I'm not exactly planning on writing a review on every single demo that plagues my big, black baby (the only one not currently owned by Madonna). Instead I'm simply going to write short reviews on the one's I currently recommend, explaining why they're worth while.

So until I finally finish plowing through them all I thought I'd treat you all with some of the demos that have caught my eye so far...

TIGER WOODS PGA TOUR 10
NO MULTIPLAYER.
As I'm not a golf fan, I had no interest in this game. I downloaded it but couldn't get into it. So I called for some help on this one and got my cousin to play it for me. Here are his thoughts (but written by me, so I take all the credit)
Same as others, with some new features- one of which is a replay after a bad shot it cuts to your character getting angry. That's quite funny. (Actually that IS canny funny! The character tends to throw a hissy fit quite a lot!)
If you're a fan of the others, you'll enjoy this demo. For non golf fans this may be harder to get into. (I agree- it bored the hell out of me)

NBA 2K9
MULTIPLAYER
Good Graphics.
Simplistic game play- easy to use. Maybe to simplistic.
Good fun. Worth it to play with a mate.
That's all I have to say on this really. Give it a go with a friend- scoring ridiculous shots is always great fun!

THE CLUB
MULTIPLAYER
I personally found it a little dull on single player, but when I forced my cousin to play it was so much better. This game (or at least the demo) isn't anything special, it's all been done before, many, many times over. But that doesn't stop it being fun!
The multiplayer game available is split-screen "Hunter vs Hunted". The first person to kill is the hunter and constantly gets points until killed. Just simply running around an abandoned prison trying to kill your friend is heaps of fun. Give it a go, worth having to play with friends.

WANTED
NO MULTIPLAYER
Graphics are decent, but nothing special. But that doesn't matter too much when it come to something that costs diddly-squat. You play a fellow that is like an assassin from the film (to be honest, it could very well be the main character, but I didn't care enough to notice) and have to work your way from the cargo bay of an aeroplane to the cockpit- killing everything with a pulse on the way.
Fun for a while, but nothing lasting that makes me want to buy the game.
Give it a go.

GHOSTBUSTERS
NO MULTIPLAYER
I'd heard mixed reviews about this games, so downloaded it with plenty of cynical skepticisms. Then I heard those wonderful voices, coupled with a very inviting sound track that simply suck me right back to my childhood.
In the demo you are the 5th, new member of the team and join them to bust a ghost in the library. You use the equipment to track and hunt the unruly ghosts before blasting them with your giant lasers of awesome (as you'd expect really). What I didn't expect was the tension in the atmosphere of the game, causing me to freak out if even a book wobbled on a shelf! Coupled with the lovely tongue-and-cheek commentary of your fellow Ghostbusters over the radio.
I didn't expect to like this demo as much as I did and I'm now seriously considering opening my cob-web riddled wallet and buying the full thing! (I can see online multiplayer being great fun)
You really have to try this one.

RAGDOLL KUNG FU
MULTIPLAYER (up to 4)
I didn't exactly have high hopes for this one, but ended up having a lot of fun and giggling a fair bit! There are a few modes to play with- Training, Challenges, Battle and Multiplayer King of the Hill. This game is easily worth it for the multiplayer alone- me and a few friends played this over and over!
A must have for people with friends. (Unless you hated Little Big Planet, Enter the Dragon and Team America)

1942 JOINT STRIKE
MULTIPLAYER
This is simply an old-skool flying shooter. Bad guys come from the top, you (and your mate) and at the bottom. Shooting up. At the bad guys. Throw in a few power ups, special moves, ridiculous amounts of bad guys and a few bosses and this turns into a really fun little game.
I can see the appeal wearing off after a while without buying the full game, but it's a good game to try out with a friend for an hour.

ECHOCHROME
NO MULTIPLAYER
I first saw this little genius of a game on a friends PSP. It's another game with an incredibly simplistic idea behind it with leads to very ingenious and complex puzzles to solve.
The idea is to move the world around to ensure the little man walks to his destination safely. If there is a hole in the path you simply move the view around so that it is covered by a wall- out of sight, out of mind- and the man walks straight over it.
Definitely needs to be played to be appreciated.

____________________________________________________________________

There. That's your lot for now. I haven't included the games that I hated or lost interest in instantly, but if people would also like to know which demos to avoid (if so, either leave a comment below, send me an email or TWITTER me) then I can write that up in the next installment.

There are other demos I am playing and enjoying that I haven't written up yet because some of these gems deserve much more time on them before I can so a decent, more detailed write up. Others I just simply haven't got around to playing yet (I think "Call of Juarez" is up next!) but will be written up next time.

Any suggestions for demos that you recommend I play, please feel free to write your suggestion on a rock and hurl it through my window.

MAG Official Release Date

maybemagsub580

The team at Zipper and SCEA are happy to announce that MAG will hit North American retailers on January 26th, 2010.I would expect MAG to release on the 29th in Europe as that’s a Friday. The release date had been rumoured of late to be sometime in early 2010 instead of the first thought fall 2009 release date.

You may of heard by now that the MAG beta is under way and emails are being sent out in the US to register to be invited to the beta, if you have not received a email don’t worry they will be sent out in waves just like the Home emails were. While here in Europe it’s been announced that only beta testers will be invited at the moment. With the game coming out in January of 2010, it should be more then enough time to sort out all the problems that may arise in the beta, and hopefully more people will be invited from the non beta/Gap testers as the game will need a lot of players to really test out those 256 player servers.

If you have not received an email yet and would like a chance to be in the beta the only thing i can suggest is try to be active on the MAG forums and if its anything like the Home invites, try to be active on your PS3 otherwise why would they invite someone who only plays their PS3 a few hours a month.

New Uncharted 2 single-player Gameplay (spoiler)

New Uncharted 2 single player footage courtesy of 1UP below. In this level (chapter 11 Keep Moving) you are trying to escape while having to help a guy called Jeff (i think that’s his name) who is wounded, just watching this video had me on the edge of my seat, imagine what it will feel like when you are actually playing it yourself.Enemies seem to come from out of no where which keeps the action following.

From the videos I've seen so far it looks like every level will be different from the last which not many games do well this generation. You have a level where you are chased by a truck, a level on a train, levels in snowy and icy locations, a level with a chopper, this one where you are escaping while having to support a wounded ally, and we still haven’t seen the rest of the levels. Also there will be co op missions this time with up to three friends being able to play together.Plus up to 10 players online in 5 vs 5 Deathmatch, Gold rush and Plunder modes.

Uncharted 2 is shaping up to be a front runner for game of the year, in my mind it’s a game all Playstation owners should buy this Christmas.

Also the video below contains analysis of the above footage but be warned it contains mild spoilers.

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker Trailer

____________________________________________________________________

So there we go, that's your lot.

Looking forward to taking a peak at the new MGS trailer....

The "Call of Juarez" demo is the update I've been most anticipating though- yet another demo to add to my list....

And for anyone interested, I've been playing loads of demos lately, with plenty more to get through. I'll write an update soon- another list of recommended downloads, with possibly a list of downloads you should avoid (and there are plenty!)

So if anyone has any recommendations for me, feel free to send me a message, Email, comment or Twitter.

Official Borderlands PS3 Box Art

Above is the official PS3 Borderlands box art for the US, but expect the European art to be the same just with different ratings.I think the box art is really nice and different from most other games, and should stand out really well in the stores against the other games coming out this Christmas.

Release dates
(October 20th, 2009 US)
(October 23rd, 2009 Europe)

Batcave Apartment Coming To Home

Platform Exclusive
(ATTN: As confirmed by Sefton Hill of Rocksteady, the Joker will only be playable on the PS3 and will not be playable on the 360 at anytime in the future. It is a permanent PS3-only exclusive. This is due to an exclusive deal that Sony has for the video game.)

PC
There will be Physx implementation for users with nVidia 8800+ graphic cards, or Ageia Physx Cards (if anyone ever bought these before nVidia bought the company).

Xbox 360
None.

PS3
Able to play as The Joker in eight Challenge Map which will be released as downloadable content on August 25th on the PlayStation Network. This DLC will be free.

There will be a "Batman Arkham Asylum Batcave Outpost Apartment". Apparently, this will be only for PlayStation Home. It will contain items such as the Batsuit, Batmobile, and Batwing, along with various Bat-gadgets. This content on PlayStation Home will be free.

The comic book "The Road to Arkham" will be given to PSP owners via download on the PlayStation Network. This comic will be free but will most likely NOT be able to be read by your PS3.

The PlayStation 3 version of Batman: Arkham Asylum will use some elements of SIXAXIS Motion Control.

Borderlands Has Over 3 Million Weapons (Updated)

********UPDATE********
It appears the 3 million weapons estimate was wrong, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford reveals that “the last count was like 17,750,000,” yes that's a crazy amount of weapons, you probably won't use even a fraction of these.Randy Pitchford explained how they made all those weapons “Just thinking about shotguns we had thousands of permutations on a whiteboard. All the development teams in the world added together can’t build that many guns, because there are more guns in Borderlands than all the shooters on the PS3 and 360 added together. We had to build software to do it for us, so we built a procedural generation system that built all these guns.” World record for the most weapons in a game?

You can read the whole interview over at CVG
********END OF UPDATE********

ORIGINAL POST
During a recent showcasing event of Borderlands, MTV Multiplayer noticed while Gearbox president and founder Randy Pitchford was switching to a specific weapon he wanted to show off that there was over three million (3,166,880 to be precise) different entries. The weapons ranged from sniper rifles, Uzis and rocket launchers all with their own specific effects(fire and ice elements),with the release date of October 20th US and October 23rd for Europe on PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 there is still time to add even more weapons to an already very impressive amount.

Top 8 FREE Demos!

I remember when I was younger avidly awaiting the next issue of a gaming magazine to come out, just so that I could get my sticky child fingers on the latest demo disk for the PSX. And now that we live in the future, with our electric cars, robotic hoovers and Twitter, all our needs are catered for without ever needing to leave the house!

Like I've always said- the best thing about the new generation of games consoles are the freebies, so I thought I'd dedicate today's article to my top list of demos from the PS Store. Some old, some new, all worth a look.

BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYUM
Okay, so it's safe to say that I've been raving about this game for some time now, but for good reason! The build up to this demo has been intense- could it really live up to expectation? Well it's safe to say yes, yes it has! The game play it's very fun, the fighting dynamics look and flow very nicely and the sneaking, detective aspect of the game play is incredibly satisfying. I've already played the demo a few times over without ever getting bored, so I'm hoping the full game will be just as exciting.
The only downside is that the full game could end up being a bit repetitive, with limited attacks, moves etc. However, from reading various preview's written by people that have had a chance to play the full game, the game remains interesting an varied throughout. I suppose only time will tell, but for the time being this demo has definitely kept me, and hopefully all of you, occupied.

WOLVERINE
I used to live with a bunch of lads and often came back to find new demos installed on my PS3. So after a hard day of student life (drinking, lounging around in the sun, shirking off essays etc.) I came home to find this in my games folder.
Great demo- slashing Wolverines foes with those claws of his is gloriously satisfying. The fighting is really easy to master and is quite varied- leaping over a bad guy and slashing him in the face before giving him a colonic irrigation with your spiky fist, to picking up a flaming man and throwing him across the room onto a spike.
The demo can be played a few times over before it loses its appeal, which is why I wouldn't suggest buying the game. Reviews have stated that the graphics are brilliant and the fighting is varied, but the game itself lacks in longevity and ultimately becomes a repetitive chore- constantly re-tracing steps, lazily repeating levels (the level in the demo has to be completed several times throughout the game) and a bafflingly confusing story.
So my advice- just stick with the demo.

NARUTO
This one I only downloaded for a friend I was living with. He's a big Naruto fan so I thought he would like this. After it was installed it sat unplayed for months. Eventually, after playing all the other demos I had downloaded, I thought I'd finally give it a try- and thought it was great!
I've never been a Naruto fan so I wasn't exactly brimming with excitement to play, amusing I'd be lost, not knowing the characters or the special moves they use. But after playing it I found it to be very easily accessible, colourful and very fun. The fighting dynamics work really well (after a few attempts at least to figure out the controls) and moving around the beautiful scenery worked well.
The style reminded me a lot of the Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi games, with colourful graphics and the camera behind the player rather than the traditional side on, 2D view.
I'm not sure if I would pick up the game itself, but the demo is definitely worth a look in.

SKATE / SKATE 2
Anyone that reads my articles (all 3 of you out there) know that lately Skate 2 has slowly taken control of my PS3. It's a great game, providing you stick at it for a while. So my advice is to give you that extra edge once you get the game, is to practice with the demo first. If you're used to the old Tony Hawks games then this is a bit of a shock to the system- the controls are vastly different and much harder to master. But because of this, finally nailing that hard trick you've been working on is far more satisfying.
This demo is a must have.

UFC
This demo most definitely worth downloading if you have friends, or ever plan on making any. When I lived in a house of 5 lads, this was one of the games that we played the most. There is nothing more satisfying in this world than sitting around, having a drink and beating the crap out of each other on a FREE game! (Albeit a demo, but free never the less).
This is another game that takes a while to master, as I still don't fully understand how the grappling works, but is still open to casual gamers who just want to punch and kick their way to victory.
This is a great fighting game, brilliant with friends and definitely worth downloading. Now.

MOTORSTORM: PACIFIC RIFT
Once you and your friends, imaginary or not, get bored of smashing each others faces in, then the next step up is to smash each others cars in! This beautiful racing game has been played many times over on my console and still gets asked to be put on when friends come over.
Whereas in the UFC game you only get to choose between two characters, this demo allows you to play with 3 very different vehicles; a Buggy, a Motorbike and a Monster Truck- each giving a very different style of game play.
There's nothing more I can say really. It looks incredible, game play is fun and varied and is brilliant fun when friends come over. Get this one downloaded immediately.

PIXEL JUNK EDEN
This game is beautiful. It is so beautifully simplistic and simplistically beautiful. Doesn't look too bad either. And I think it looks pretty.
This is a small, 2D game with only one button- Jump. And the directional buttons to control the jump. So that's two buttons really...
You (and a friend if they bore of smashing things up) jump around the 2D world, collecting what can only be described as "colourful dots", making plant-like towers grow.
Jumping and swinging around this little world is very relaxing. This game has to be experienced by all. And the price of this demo is just right- nothing!

TRASH PANIC
This is the latest demo to call my console home. I saw it when I was searching for the new Batman demo and noticed the tag for it said "FREE". So after I played the Batman demo several times over, I noticed this sitting in my demo folder, forgotten and alone... So I thought I'd bite the bullet and give it a go.
First thoughts? WOW- This is fun!!
Brilliant little game, very basic game play and VERY addictive! It's a bit like Tetris, you have objects coming in and you have to place them all into the trash container to make them fit. Sorry, did I say place? I meant SMASH! There are all sorts of objects- barrels, violins, teddy's, toilets, statues, motorbikes, flaming torches- all of which have fit into the bin. Wooden objects can be smashed and burnt to make room, but objects like toilets and washing machines are harder to to break, as well as letting out water that puts out fires.
This game is seriously addictive, and as the full game is only £3.99 I'm seriously tempted to splash out on the full game. And as you may have already gathered from this article, I'm quite tight with my cash!
So what are you still sitting here for? Download this demo now!

So that's my list of free demos I recommend you to download, currently installed on my PS3.
Before starting this article I asked around to see if anyone else had suggestions for demos to try. I had a few suggestions (@Dude2Devil suggested the Wanted demo) so decided to search through every nook and cranny of the PS Store for any demos that caught my eye. I now currently have about 20 demos downloading, so hopefully I should have a new list of demos for you to download soon.

If anyone has any suggestions of demos they would recommend, send me a message or leave a comment below. Or, if you're all modern and that, try Twittering me!

Now- go forth and download to your hearts content!

Ex-MTV Boss Targets Games TV (Update)

I just found the following over at MCVUK, sounds very interesting but i have never seen it advertised on TV.

**********Update**********
I've just had a look on the bravo website and found that GameFace and Ginx Files are on today (Sunday 9th of August 2009) see pic below.

**********End Of Update**********

Peter Einstein launches new games-focused show Game Face on Bravo

The former president of MTV Europe is looking to turn his company into a games equivalent of the music channel – as it launches a games-focused new show.

Game Face kicked off on Bravo last weekend. The show was created by Ginx TV, which was founded by former MTV boss Peter Einstein.

Game Face includes reviews and is presented by Julia Hardy. The show is broadcast in various prime time slots on Bravo’s channels, and followed international weekly review show The Ginx Files.

“I believe that the viewing figures for Game Face will build over time as gamers find the show and look forward to connecting with us each week to enjoy what’s going on in their gaming world,” Einstein told MCV.

As well as working with partners such as Bravo, Ginx TV describes itself as being ‘the first international 24/7 TV channel that turns video gaming into mainstream entertainment TV’.

Added Einstein: “There could be multiple reasons that games TV shows have failed in the past – which could even be linked to management, cost overruns, not just necessarily the channel format.

“From what we’ve seen in the past a lot of the focus has been more outside of the games, with presenter reviews, stats, interviews with creators and only a bit about the games themselves – as one assumed that you only ‘play’ games you can’t ‘watch’ them.

“By taking the rich production values of many games today, using the story line or game objective, Ginx creates a TV production from a TV viewers point of view. We feel this concept provides a fun, entertaining TV event which is appealing mostly to the casual gamer.”

PS3 And InFamous For £229.98

I've just heard that someone picked up an 80GB PS3 with Infamous for £229.98 (£199.98+vat) from Makro in Bristol (Cribbs Causeway). They also had an 80GB PS3 with Killzone 2 for the same price.

“The one I got was on clearance from £249.98+vat and the Killzone 2 was on clearance from £229.98. Funny as they have the PS3 on it's own for £255+vat!”

Not sure if this is nationwide.
Unfortunately no sign of Killzone 2 on it's own for £11.49. That would have been a nice package!

This appears to be even more evidence that Sony have told retailers the slim is about to arrive, read this for more details.

LittleBigPlanet PSP Cover Art

Below is the official LittleBigPlanet PSP cover art. Also the games release date as not been confirmed, but Play are listing it at the 20th November this year, but Amazon are claiming the 30th October, so expect it some where around those dates.LittleBigPlanet PSP is available for pre-order at around £18 [€21] sounds like a bargin.9163411x

Batman: Arkham Asylum- Making the Game

Since the Demo has FINALLY hit the PS Store, I thought I'd find some B:AA related news to post, as I had some spare time on my hands while waiting for it to download.

The latest news on the game seems to be a short behind the scenes look at the game, i.e- the making of!

So sit back, relax and enjoy...
