We're ready to believe in Ghostbusters LittleBigPlanet costumes
No, Sony hasn't actually confirmed that Ghostbusters costumes are headed to LittleBigPlanet, but it has certainly hinted at the possibility. In a recent post on Playstation.Blog highlighting the new Sacktue of Liberty costume, the company dropped a not so subtle hint. Following the words "Future LittleBigPlanet DLC?" was the image to the right.
Everyone and their dog knows who they're gonna call, and that's the Ghostbusters, so we're pretty sure that related costumes are on the way. Who knows, maybe they'll throw in a Slimer costume while they're at it.
Tecmo kindly asks for a PS3 price cut
... And for good reason, too. The company is bringing out two PS3 exclusives this year: Quantum and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. Considering its third-party status, Tecmo is really risking a lot by abandoning a traditional multiplatform approach.
"Whenever I discuss this with Sony reps I always ask them: 'Please cut the price'," Tecmo's Kenji Matsubara told CVG. "Sony introduced cutting-edge technology in the PS3, that's why people in the industry accept that the PS3 cost is so high, but we'd welcome a price cut."
That's certainly a change of tone from a different third-party publisher, Activision. That company most recently made waves when it half-heartedly "threatened" to remove support for PlayStation products. In spite of the difference in approaches, it's clear that the PS3's price needs to be lowered. Not only does the customer want it, but publishers are demanding it as well.

24 million installed base for UK consoles recorded
This is intriguing math. Gfk-ChartTrack of UK has released the data for console sales in the region up to June 27, 2009 and it shows that there is a stellar 24 million installed base in the UK to date, with 8.4 million contributing to that number in the past 12 months.
Who reigns supreme? No question to it, the Nintendo's DS is still the king of the handhelds with 9.1 million install base. That's 2.7 million more users in the past year. It is also reported that since its launch in April of this year, the DSi has already sold 300,000 units.
Coming in second place is Nintendo's home console, Wii, with 5.4 million gamers secured in its lawn, with 2.3 million additional installed base coming in June 2008. Meanwhile, the Xbox 360 is also quite enjoying attention from the UK gamers - 3.9 million installed base thus far, with 1.7 million joining in the club the past 12 months.
As for the PS3, it sits at 2.2 million, with 900,000 units up from the same period last year.Sony's handheld, the PSP, has sold 3.3 million units, experiencing an increase in sales with 500,000 units sold the past year.
In total, that would amount to 24 million units gaming consoles sold. Despite what your leanings may be, or which console you prefer to be on top, the good news here is that the gaming industry in UK is apparently thriving, with all platforms getting positive movement in sales for 2008.

The Sacktue of Liberty is out today
It’s quite possibly the cutest way of celebrating the United States of America’s day of Independence, this July 4th!
And if the free content isn’t enough to keep you happy, don’t forget that the rather awesome Jon Burgerman Original Sticker Pack is still hot on the PSN Store with its funky collection of Burgerman sticker goodness.
Remember that PSN Stores update one by one around the world, east to west.
We’re in Europe where it’s just gone live, so you U.S folks normally have to wait a little longer for it to cross the ocean
Sony Don’t Need An Invisible Steering Wheel
If you were delighted at Sony’s “wand” showing this E3, you’ll be even more delighted to know that apparently, you don’t even need the bloody thing. We’re confused - the wand seemed like a great idea, but a new patent has been found by Siliconera that appears to ’scan’ in any household object and use it as a controller. The patent graphics show a bizarre U-shaped block which is translated into a sword on screen, but the text says that the scanner’s abilities will include items such as “coffee mugs, drinking glasses, books [and] bottles” so let’s hope there’s not going to be a Glasgow simulator where you go around smashing stuff on people’s heads.
It appears the the system, which has not yet been officially announced, would request that the user ’show’ the camera different angles of the device in question before it can recognise what it is and what it will be used for in-game. This means that you’ll be able to use your cat as a golf club, for example, or a tin of baked beans instead of a bazooka. It also makes a slight mockery of Microsoft’s invisible steering wheel when you can just use Grandma’s old China plates instead. Whilst in principle this idea is fabulous, I for one assumed Sony were concentrating all their efforts on making the most out of the original wand idea - if the camera can track anything in 3D space, why would we need to buy yet another bit of bloody plastic?
Siliconera have, for some reason, omitted a direct link to the patent but you can see the graphics used in the document via the link in the first paragraph, above.
Where is Sony going wrong?
To me the PS3 is more then just a gaming machine, but its main selling point is the games everything else is just extras, the problem seems to be the lack of advertising/marketing here in the UK i see Wii adverts nearly every advert break and shops like Argo's have posters in there window's showing Mario, wii and Wii motion plus. So why are we not seeing any PSP or PS3 adverts or posters?? i have seen the killzone 2 advert about three time's and other then that just 3rd party multi platform games. Xbox360 is a little better but still no where near the Wii.
Could this be one of the reason's the Wii is in first place and the PS3 is in third, also DS selling better then the PSP? if Sony wants to win this generation then this is where they could make an impact. Adverts showing the FREE online play, the amazing first party games already out and upcoming, and maybe showing some of the extras like Home, Vidzone and psn store.
the PS3 seems to rely on word of mouth and people who read blogs and gaming websites online but the rest of the world knows very little about the PS3 and this is something Sony needs to address and fast if they are to turn this generation around.
Fat Princess Disappears From Summer Release List
The best thing ever to happen to European PS3 fans, apart from TSA of course, is the Official Blog. Right from the off they’ve delivered everything we could ever have wanted: official confirmations, developer insights and timely updates - we’re impressed. Of course, they also bring bad news from time to time, albeit news that you have to read in-between the lines of to get - and this time it’s the Summer PSN Highlights post that’s just gone up, that - yes - is missing Fat Princess.
We were ‘promised’ a June release and now that June’s come and gone, we were hoping for July. Unless SCEE have missed something with their post, which lists hits like Battlefield 1943, Fallout 3 DLC and Bomberman, Fat Princess won’t be coming this Summer. Instead we have Zombie Apocalypse, TV Show King and Shatter to entertain us. We have our own thoughts on what’s happened to Fat Princess but aren’t prepared to speculate just now without full consideration, but we’ll hopefully have more on that soon.
At the time of publication there were no comments or replies on the Blog post in question - if this changes, in reference to Fat Princess, we’ll let you know.
Update: The EU Blog’s Mike Kebby has just replied to the many Fat Princess queries with the following:
I wasn’t allowed to mention Fat Princess because of what happened last time we mentioned it on the blog…better to be safe than sorry. The developers will be the ones to come onto the blog to announce it’s arrival when a date has been decided. It is coming though don’t worry.
So it would seem that after all the flak the EU Blog received when Fat Princess did not get released in June as they had said in a previous post that they have had to play safe until the have got a firmer release date for the game. The phrase “damned if they do and damned if they don’t” springs to mind. We would not mind some insight into what has delayed this much anticipated game though.
