DCUO Game Update 40 Now On Test Server 15th August 2014
Gadgets Power Revisions!
With Game Update 40, we have made improvements to Gadgets! The Gadgets power set now has new damage mechanic improvements that ensures Gadgets has the same damage potential as Weapon Mastery, combo powers (Light/Celestial/Rage), DoT Powers (Nature/Electricity), channel and cast powers (Fire), and Pet powers (Sorcery/Earth).
Gadgets users can now use a number of new mechanics centered around "Advanced Interactions" to cause superior damage output. Specific changes are outlined in the notes below.
Rare Style Vendor Update!
With Game Update 40 we have added new items (existing styles) to the Rare Style Vendor. All of these items will cost 70 Marks of Fury. The Rare Style Vendor, Vending Unit 22, is located in the player's Headquarters. Please see the notes below for a full list of items added.
Weapon Mastery Style Selection!
Players may now select appearance styles for Weapon Mastery combo weapons!
Players have always been able to choose the appearance of their primary weapon through the Style UI. With this new feature, players will also be able to choose the appearance of their Weapon Mastery combo weapons through the Style UI. When the player accesses the Style UI with a primary weapon equipped for which they have unlocked Weapon Mastery, he or she will see two additional appearance categories in the list for the two related combo weapon types. The combinations are unique per primary weapon, meaning that Brawling into Two-Hand can be different from Shield into Two-Hand. By setting the Mastery Weapon style option, you are not setting your actual style for the primary weapon nor are they shared between the combos. With this change, primary weapon styles will persist as well.
New Mainframe Boost!
With GU40 we are adding a new Boost column to the Base Mainframe. This means new upgrades to all of our Sidekicks, Back-Up, Orbital Strikes, Supply Drops, and Tactical Mods at a price of 15625 Marks of Triumph.
Note: Boost III does not require a new Generator Cell level. It will use the same level that powers Boost II.
Prestige Messaging Improvements
Players in a League will now be able to access a Prestige Report from the control panel in their personal bases to find out how much Prestige is being generated by that base for their League. Simply select that option and view the report in the text field at the top of the menu! Prestige is earned from decorations and amenities per base so players will have to visiteach of the bases they own once per week to collect that amount. Prestige earned by mainframe upgrades, generator mods, and power level are shared by all bases and will be collected only with the first base you visit that week.

Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Editions Will be limited
In an interview with IGN, Infinity's Robert Bowling discusses the creative forces behind the opulent, night-vision goggles-equipped collector's edition, and explained its eventual scarcity. According to him, only one set of individually numbered Prestige Editions will be produced -- though retail chains have requested the developer to create even more prestigious units. Seems like parties interested in acquiring the bundle will need to act quickly.
So to all the people moaning about the price i say this to you, will this make the price more worth while knowing that only a certain amount will be made. I know a lot of gamers who like to buy collectors editions of games that are released especially if there are only a set amount available.

PlayStation Wii? (A look at the PS Wand)
There's no denying that the Nintendo Wii was an overwhelming success. Phenomenally so. (See charts below if you don't believe me... Or check out this cool moving graph)

Not good with numbers? Don't worry, this graph might suit you better...

As you can see, Nintendo is storming ahead with their cheaper products aimed more towards the family, with the technically superior PS3 is left trailing at the back. The main reason for this is said to be the price, although a price drop is imminent for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 (An article written by Krease explains this better)
Either way, with the DS's touch screen and the Wii's motion sensors, both PlayStation and Xbox have been hard at work trying to find NEW and REVOLUTIONARY ways to... Well, rip Nintendo's ideas off.
Therefor it is no surprise that they have both unveiled their new devices for the consoles, Playstation with the PLAYSTATION WAND and Xbox with PROJECT NATAL, at E3 this year. (To be honest, if you didn't know this already then you must have been living under a rock.... Or a non-gamer who mistook this site for some sort of pornography, in which case- here you go)
The two different devices work in completely different ways, but still manage to seemingly steal the Nintendo Wii's control system.

PlayStation seem to have ripped off the Wii mote itself, with the PS3 Wand. It works in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye to give full motion control.

Whereas Xbox have decided to pinch the Wii Motion sensor design with their Project Natal.
However, although both we unveiled at E3, and Project Natal has some pretty interesting concepts, only PlayStation had a working model to show. And what a show that was!
This is the future. By leaning over and copying off Nintendo's paper, PlayStation seem to have vastly improved on the concept. Although the Wii Motion Sensor Plus has been released, it may be too little too late. The future of gaming is almost here and I, for one, cannot wait.
(I know it's taken a while to get here, but this bit is the ACTUAL NEWS I've been working towards here!)
SO- Off the back of this, EA has now stated that they are on board with both Natal and the PS3 Wand. A report published on Eurogamer.net states that EA's head fella, John Riccitiello, confirmed that "early-to-mid 2010" will be the time when the company will reveal exactly how it plans to support the new motion-sensitive control systems.

"We're planning to support both," he stated. "We haven't yet announced our plans to do so, but we shall do so in the right time-frame for that, which is likely to be early-to-mid-2010."
So the future of gaming is looking really interesting... And REALLY close!

Skate 2 Review (and a cameo from the Fresh Prince of Persia)
Biznitch- Sunday, 01:09am
Hello out there all the avid readers of PlayStation Blogger UK!
The one-man-band leading this whole operation has stretched out his hand to ask other for input on this fine website- so here I am!
I've written some stuff about gaming (mainly mindless rambling) so I am now here to inform you all about some of the games available for the PS3- and hopefully help you stay clear of the bad ones.
I thought the best way to start on this blog would be to talk about the games I've been playing recently, those being PRINCE OF PERSIA and SKATE 2.
I got the games from Amazon.co.uk when they had a PS3 sale, so snatched them both up for around £30.
So what follows are my initial reactions to the games and how they held out....
First up-
Skate 2-
HARD. I'm slowly getting the hang of it, then it tells me to do a "Revert to pop shuvit" and I couldn't figure out how to revert. It's not on the trick menu and I presume its no longer the good ol' "R2 on a half pipe" like back in the day when Tony taught us all.....
Each time I play I find myself getting better, but then a simple sounding challenge comes along that makes me realise just how terrible I am. Another instance came up after finally learning the controls and attempted a "S*K*A*T*E" challenge. I knew al the moves, but sadly it appears the omputer players do too... As far as I see, its impossible.
On top of this, the camera angle is so low that when you pick up speed you hit that jump you've had your eye on, your characters monstrous arse takes up so much of the screen that it becomes no more than a guessing game. Then if you hit the jump you still have to time your ollie just right. It very quickly becomes a trial and error effort- the same jump over and over and over again until you finally nail it and move onto the next jump/trick/sequence that you have to try over and over until you ask yourself "Why am I still playing this?" It feels like more of a chore at times than a game.
"Easy to pick up, life time to master" -> But missing out totally on the "Easy to pick up." Its almost as if the game doesn't want YOU to play. This isn't for you, its ours.... It's an exclusive party. But for some reason, the more I play, the more I want in. Why?!
However, the developers seem to have foresaw this inevitable tediousness of the game by adding an incredibly addictive mini-game. "The Hall of Meat". Basically, every time you bail it shows you your fall in slow motion and gives you points on how much you managed to cripple your character. Beautiful. Now, every time you get frustrated when you can't get that "Boneless to 360 spoon fuck" you simply throw yourself off a building, curl into a ball and aim for a passing car. And if your friend isn't any good in 2 player, let their downfalls become an advantage and play them at this instead!
Physics faults aren't common, but are HILARIOUS! (NOTE: ALL VIDEOS ARE MADE IN GAME)
FRUSTRATION soon lead me to try the other game-
Prince of Persia-
GOD AWFUL. As a fan of the previous instalments I was foolishly stricken down by something called "expectations". Dialogue is horrible, slap googly eyes on the characters and they look like they belong in a pokeball and the old fashioned smooth free-running from the old games?
OVER.
The Prince's new claw slows things down hugely- instead of running up a wall you jump-claw-jump-claw, assuming you haven't fallen asleep before you reach your destination- assuming some more that you haven't stabbed a knitting needle through your ear just to silence that TERRIBLE dialogue.
I know the video is crap- but imagine a whole game of THIS DIALOGUE!
On top of this the camera angles changes incredibly sporadically. It proves to be extremely irritating when you try to jump from a wall-run and the camera cuts to an "Uh-oh, you're falling down a hole!" above angle, as if the game itself is mocking you for almost failing. This then means you have to guess your jumps towards the end of the wall and I can tell you now- Blind Faith, although a fine name for a disabled Christian rock band, is a terrible idea for a free-running game as it breaks flow.
I stopped playing, promptly.
The next day however the strangest thing happened- I woke up and really wanted to play SKATE 2. It frustrated me so much, but I was getting better.
The day after I took a look at my games collection- SAINTS ROW 2, MGS4, LBP etc... And all I wanted to do was play SKATE-BLOODY-2.
It seemed that the more I played, better I got. The better I got, the more I wanted to play. It's actually great to find a game that you struggle with at first because eventually, once you finally master that move that's been taunting you for so long you actually feel a sense of accomplishment. And the rag-doll physics of throwing your skater from the highest building was tremendously, and eerily, relaxing!
The 2 player version of this brilliant too. Eventually everyone with a game like this becomes "That Guy" that no-one can beat because they've played it more. But with the "Hall of Meat" means that the worse your mates are at this game, the better chance they have! (Today I was actually beat by my 3 year old niece.... TWICE!!!)
So I think now is the time to wrap this little (little?!) review up. So, what have we learnt? Well, nothing really, but if my opinion is anything to be listened to I recommend people STAY AWAY from PRINCE of PERSIA. Although, if you really think it looks good and you REALLY love cell-shading (the EASY way out of graphic designing) then I say try renting it for the weekend.
And as for SKATE 2- well... Go for it! Or at least download the demo. Give it a chance. A friend asked me if they should get it after I first played it. I said "No! But try renting it..." and now I honestly think it's essential in a collection (I actually have it on pause now!) at least for variety if anything. It's a challenge, and although aspects are bad (one of which being the terrible off-board physics) the positives are great (the ability to move ramps/environmental objects off board and the sound track) and eventually brilliant (the on-board physics and the option to edit your own skating videos with ease- very fun!).
I recommend it. That's all I can say really.
Thank you for your time and please tip your waiters.

Hustle Kings' control scheme is simple and effective, with the left stick aiming the shot, the right stick dictating where on the cue ball you want to strike and the L2 and R2 buttons controlling power. To take the shot, you have to stop a moving meter - much like the ones found in many golf games - at the right moment. The more difficult the shot and the more spin and power you're playing with, the more difficult the meter is to stop.
This will help promote fast, exciting multiplayer, which, Gaskell explains, will be comprehensively supported when the game hits PlayStation Store later in 2009. "You'll be able to play offline singles matches and we're including Killer, which is an eight-player round-robin game that I play all the time with my friends in real life. Online, we're including Hustle Rooms for up to 64 players to compete one-on-one and try and hustle each other out of their hard earned credits.
"There are lots of items for players to win and buy with their Hustle King credits, such as Golden cues and diamond encrusted chalk holders. We're talking to the PlayStation Community Team about how we can create a custom version of the game they can use to host special tournaments, and give away real-world prizes. We also have big plans for PlayStation Home."
Even at this relatively early stage in its development, Hustle Kings looks beautiful and plays intuitively. Anyone who knows how to play pool will be able to pick it up and pot balls with ease, thanks to the aiming guides that tell you which direction the cue ball and object ball will travel in, although taking on a computer-controlled opponent on insane difficulty or ruling the online leaderboards will be a stern test for anyone.
It's shaping up to be the king of pool games.

Uncharted 2 Gold Rush Revealed
Naughty Dog's Arne Meyer announces a new co-op game mode called "Gold Rush" for Uncharted 2 from the Comic-Con show floor. The object of gold rush is to grab the treasure while fighting off enemies and working together in order to bring the treasure back to the treasure spot once this is achieved you need to finish off the remaining enemies to finish the round, but if you die you will sit out the remainder of the round unless you are revived by a team mate. This mode is looking very good and team work will be tested for sure. the co-op mode from the beta required team work at certain points to progress but other then the times you needed to work together to progress people tended to watch out for themselves.

Borderlands release date set for October 20
It's approaching that time. Development cycles are coming to an end, the summer trade-show circuit is in full swing and Christmas is fast approaching. That means publishers are starting to nail down release dates for this year's must-have X-mas present. Borderlands is the latest game to be dated and it will be available to grab off store shelves in October, as planned. October 20, to be exact.
That's the American date, anyway. Europeans can expect to wait three days more to get their hands on Gearbox's RPG shooter with a much improved art style, on October 23.

Killzone Bundle And New Trailer
Tomorrow our third DLC “Napalm & Cordite” will be released, allowing you to nail or toast your enemies with the addition of the Boltgun and Flamethrower. For those of you that might have only just picked up Killzone 2, or have not jumped on the DLC wagon yet, we’ve got an announcement to make.
Also going live tomorrow is a Bundle of map packs Steel & Titanium, Flash & Thunder and Napalm & Cordite combined. And we are calling it the ‘Map Pack Bundle’, original I know, but it does what it says on the lid.
So enjoy all the destruction and beauty of Killzone 2 Multiplayer DLC with these 6 great maps.

LBP Hits One Million Created Levels
One. Million. Levels.
Amazing, isn’t it? Just think, this means that a new level has been published roughly every 21 seconds since LittleBigPlanet launched.
In case you were wondering, those million levels have been played a total of 244 million times.
The fact that you keep coming back to play, create and share makes us feel all warm and happy.
To those of you who haven’t yet tried LittleBigPlanet, let me ask you a question. What the heck are you waiting for? With over a million different levels to play … don’t you think you might be missing out? :-)
Oh, and one last thing before I’m off to play some of these great user-generated creations on PlayStation Network: check back on this blog around the 18th of August. The folks at Media Molecule might have something interesting to tell you about then…

PSP GO Almost Had Two Analog Sticks

In the most recent issue of Game Informer Sony exec Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that the company "had a very serious discussion" on the subject of adding a second analog stick to the PSP GO, but ultimately decided against it due to worries over splintering the market.
"The PSP Go is designed to be perfectly compatible with the PSP-3000 and all the games that released before that," Yoshida said. For him, it's not a question of improving future games' controls but keeping parity with previous PSP iterations. "We are talking about the mid-life cycle of this platform," he says. Considering the PSP launched in the US in March of 2005, it appears as though Sony is sticking to its 10-year life cycle plan for the handheld.
I think it's a good idea not to include the second analog stick on the PSP GO, but please Sony include it from the start on the PSP2 so that FPS games work the way they should with two analog sticks.
Release Schedules
Bayonetta, Bioshock 2, Mafia 2, Singularity and MAG have all slipped from 2009 release dates into 2010 release time frames it appears there are two reasons behind this. The first is the fact you will always get games that get pushed back due to problems or the over crowded holiday season were most of the years biggest games hit the shelves. The second reason is that sales are down a third in 2009 at this present time so publishers like Take2 have said this is the main problem for their games and are pushing them back in the hope the world recovers from recession in 2010 and also there will be less competition with other games as most of them are releasing in the holiday season.
Despite the delays to some games there are still plenty due this Autumn. Uncharted 2, Assassins Creed 2, Brutal Legend, Ratchet And Clank: A Crack In Time, Borderlands, The Saboteur, Gran Turismo 5, Blur, Dirt 2, Need For Speed: Shift, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, The Beatles: Rock Band, Lego Rock Band, Guitar Hero 5, Dragon Age: Origins, Alpha Protocol, Avatar and of course Modern Warfare 2 plus many many more. Additionally two of last year’s big hitters, Fallout 3 and LittleBigPlanet, are getting re-releases as Game Of The Year editions.
Hopefully this will mean from 2010 we will see more games releasing not just around the christmas period, games like killzone 2, MGS4 and Resident evil 5 have proven that you dont always need to release your games around the christmas period for them to be succesful. I would like to see more games released around the summer time to seeing how the kids are off from school here in the UK for a six week summer holiday, most of the big movies for kids release around this time to like Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince so why not release some of the big games in the summer to?

More PS3 Slim Rumours

It seems almost certain now we will be hearing about a release date and price for the PS3 Slim at GDC 2009 next month. A few sites are posting that they have retail source's suggesting the PS3 Slim is coming 2nd of September 2009 and the price will be €299 add the fact there is a video showing a PS3 Slim all be it not a very good quality one, and IGN have said in their recent podcast that they have one in their office as well as the pictures of the supposed box (shown above) and unit, it seems pretty certain we will finally hear from Sony at GDC 2009 about this next month until then Sony are keeping silent on the rumours.
If this does turn out to be true then I'm sure Sony must be annoyed at the fact yet another big announcement was leaked before they had a chance to announce it.
