Xbox360 Set For A Price Drop

I know what you’re thinking, and yes this is Playstation Blogger UK and not the 360 Blogger UK, the reason for this post is that the Xbox360 is to drop its price which affects the PS3.

Apparently the Xbox360 Pro model which is the mid price ranged model between the Arcade and the Elite is set to be discontinued according to the new Xbox 360 packaging, which you can see in the picture above, there are two boxes and the one on the left is the old Arcade packaging and the one on the right is the new Arcade packaging with out the Pro listed. With the Pro version out of the way this could now mean that the Elite will be dropped to the same price as the Pro meaning a much better and of course cheaper console with more included.

Now the reason this affects the PS3 is because we all know a price drop is coming its rumoured on most sites everyday that it will happen before Christmas. The fact the 360 is coming down in price pretty much cancels out whatever price drop the PS3 will drop to.At least the PS3 will be cheaper than it is now and that's what everyone's being asking for.

I know a few friends who are putting off buying a PS3 until it drops to around the £200 mark, with the rumours suggesting the price will drop to around £209-£219, this should convince most of the people holding off to pick one up. I would think most people who were going to buy a Xbox360 either would have by now or wouldn't be to bothered by the price drop seeing how there are three different models to choose from ranging from £140-£240, where as the PS3 as been to expensive for most would be owners ranging from £270-£300 for the 80gb version. We will have to wait and see what Sony have in store for the PS3, PS3 Slim and the price drop at GDC Europe 2009(GamesCom) and the Tokyo Game Show 2009 in September.

  1. Personally I think the PS3 price is worth it, but to lure the other buyers in the price will have to drop.

One thing that people people forget is that the PS3 is free to use online, whereas the Xbox 360 charges- therefore in the long run (and lets face it, although small cosmetic changes have been made, these machines have been built to last- with the internet connectivity to ensure they can be constantly updated).

So in the long run, PS3 is surely the winner.

  2. thats very true, once you add on the extras there's not much diffence in price.

Also the reason i owned the PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3 is because they are reliable, not once have i had one break, you always here bad stories about the Xbox breaking down, i like to buy a console and not have to worry about it dying on me
